The symbol for the brand Ecomateriales is based on the ancient ouroboros figure–a dragon, snack or fish that eats its own tail–originating from the Phoenicians, Greeks and most Eastern and Western cultures. In theory the ouroboros is self-sustainable and self-regulating in its eternal cycle of renewal, much like the ecomaterials products strive to be. Ecomaterials begin to close their cycles through the biosphere or technical system. The Ecomateriales brand was also an exhibition that conceptually developed the dangers of the current use of materials and the present opportunities to close their life cycle in construction. For the exhibition I worked with elements taken from landfills that portrayed a story from their imprint, messages that transcended a linear timeline and that stimulated an increased awareness about the materials–more than words could say.
